This weekend was a working holiday! We had our bags of mulch from the Olentangy High School Fundraiser for a while. It was the chosen date on our calendar to artfully arrange said mulch. Starting under the dining room window, it became evident that I was going to run out quickly. I sent a runner (Rus) off to Home Depot to acquire more. As the sun rose higher in the sky here on the prairie, it became hotter and hotter. Ten bags later, I was finished with the initial layer, and the delivery arrived. Another 15 bags, and we had completed our task! How hot was it you ask? Well, we looked like we had been doused with water, and then rolled in mud after doing the front and the back. But as you can see, it was worth the trouble! We went to a neighborhood, Celebrate the First Weekend of Summer party on Saturday night. It didn't start off well however. Due to begin at 6, there was one of those loud, black, windy storms we seem to get here that dropped the temperature 20 degrees in under an hour. We ventured over to the house around 7:30, and helped wipe down the chairs and tables in the yard. It was nice to see people we hadn't seen since last winter. (It was a long, cold, hibernating kind of winter here on the prairie.) Children seem to have grown two feet in a half year! Guess that is the way it is when you don't have any of your own still a-growing. As a reward for our day of intensive labor, Sunday, we went on a short trip to LONDON ~ OK.............. London, Ohio. In this small sleepy town, a beautiful courthouse highlighted the center of town. The main streets had, what I would call, lovely old western buildings. One of the stores had an etched stone announcing the name of the store that originally occupied the space. Horse farms abound outside the town of London! On the way back to Galena, we stopped at one of the many Columbus Metro Parks on the way back to Galena. Each Metro Park has each own flavor. Some feature native and exotic plants; others, showcase historical estates with walking paths. This one followed the Darby Creek with lovely wide shaded paths to walk, run or ride, as well as places groups could hold lectures, picnic areas with covered gazebos, fields with volleyball nets, benches to sit and rock plateaus to fish and canoe and kayak launches. (I don't need a psychic to tell me that someone has already looked at this as a possible site to explore in his kayak. It was a wonderful weekend for us - refreshing the gardens and ourselves.
Just lining up the pictures with the posts! :)
